TBM Newsletter July 26
Tue, 14 Jul 2026Printable version
Hello!
My name is Emma Beale, and I feel honoured to be writing to you as the new Chair of The Bristol Mix.
I'm launching this newsletter as a way of keeping in touch with our current members, supporters, friends and former members, and sharing what’s coming up for The Bristol Mix. Whether you're singing with us now, have shown interest in joining, sang with us recently or years ago, or are interested in what we do, you're all part of The Bristol Mix story, and we'd love to keep you updated on what the chorus is doing.
A New Chapter
Many of you will know that The Bristol Mix was started over six years ago by our MD, Linda Corcoran, with the vision of bringing together singers from all six Bristol barbershop choruses. In 2022, we were thrilled to become the UK Mixed Chorus Barbershop Champions at BABS Convention.
Since then, the chorus has continued to grow and evolve, and we're excited to share our plans for 2026–27.
Broadening Our Repertoire
Barbershop harmony remains an important part of who we are, but we're also enjoying exploring a wider range of music.
Recent additions to our repertoire include Wannabe (performed as an English madrigal), A Choral Amen, Nearer My God to Thee, and the classic rock anthem Music Was My First Love. It's been great fun stretching ourselves musically while keeping that unmistakable Bristol Mix sound.
Welcoming Singers from Across the UK
For years, singers from beyond Bristol have asked if they could join us – and we’ve listened! As long as people can make it to our rehearsals in Bristol, they're very welcome to join.
Over the last few months we've welcomed 15 new members, building on the musical excellence, friendship and community that have always been at the heart of The Bristol Mix.
Our Big Charity Sing – Sunday 27 September
One of our autumn highlights will be our Big Charity Sing, raising money for Prostate Cancer UK. Many of us know someone – a friend, partner, father, brother or colleague – whose life has been touched by prostate cancer. We’re inviting people to come together to sing for the people we care about and to help fund life-saving research.
Everyone aged 18+ is welcome for a great day of singing, refreshments, a raffle and a bar. We'll learn and perform a surprise retro classic (although it might not be such a surprise for some of our former members!)
We're aiming for a really well-balanced chorus on the day, so we’d be delighted to welcome lots of men to sing with us.
Places are free – just email contactus@thebristolmix.com to reserve your spot.

Joint Show with the Vero Neka Big Band – Saturday 28 November
We're excited to be joining the Bristol-based Vero TV Neka Big Band for an evening of jazz, swing and close harmony at Christchurch, Clevedon.
Save the date now, and keep an eye out for ticket details later in the year.
Looking Ahead to BABS Convention 2027
The Bristol Mix will be returning to the BABS Convention stage in Brighton next year!
We're already hard at work preparing our contest set and can't wait to compete again with a chorus that has grown considerably this year.
And finally…
Thank you for being part of The Bristol Mix community, whether you're a current member, a former member, a supporter or someone interested in what we do. We hope you've enjoyed hearing about what we've been working on and our plans for the future, and we look forward to sharing more updates with you in our next newsletter.
With best wishes,
Emma
